Optimum Technologies Announces Successful Completion of Thermal Vacuum Test Campaign for Caracal on Blue Ring (CoBR)

Sterling, VA — 4/21/26 — Optimum Technologies (OpTech) is pleased to announce the successful completion of a week-long thermal vacuum (T-Vac) test campaign for the Caracal for Blue Ring (CoBR) program, marking a key milestone in system verification and flight readiness.  The successful tests conclude the final environmental verification of OpTech’s 35cm electro-optical narrow-field-of-view space domain awareness (SDA) payload.  Mission data, inclusive of both metric observations and resolved satellite imagery, is expected later this year.

The test campaign was conducted at OpTech’s environmental test facility and subjected the CoBR hardware to a comprehensive range of thermal and vacuum conditions designed to replicate the space environment. Over the course of the campaign, the system demonstrated robust performance across all planned test cases, validating both design integrity and operational functionality under mission-representative conditions.

“The successful completion of this T-Vac campaign represents a significant risk reduction milestone for the CoBR program,” said John Hildebrand, COO at Optimum Technologies. “Our team executed a disciplined and efficient test program, reinforcing confidence in the system’s readiness for subsequent integration and flight operations.”

Optimum Technologies’ integrated test and evaluation (I&T) capabilities enabled rapid test execution, real-time data analysis, and streamlined anomaly resolution, ensuring adherence to program schedule and performance objectives.

The Caracal for Blue Ring (CoBR) program represents a critical advancement in space domain awareness and responsive space operations, and this successful test campaign underscores the strength of the partnership and the maturity of the system design.

OpTech will be testing and delivering a second Caracal payload for the Space Force Victus Surgo mission this summer and is currently designing an upgraded Caracal II for future USG GEO SSA missions.

With thermal vacuum testing complete, the CoBR hardware will transition to the next phase of integration and pre-launch preparation.
